Hamas-Israel both war criminals. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights considers both the Palestinian independence group Hamas and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to be committing war crimes.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said, “The violence perpetrated by Hamas fighters in Israel on October 7 is not only despicable, cruel and painful; Rather, it is a war crime. Because they are still holding hundreds of hostages.”
“Similarly, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF)’s collective punishment of bombing and displacement of civilians in Gaza over the past month in response to that attack also amounts to a war crime,” he added.
Volker Turk said these things while visiting the Rafah crossing on the border between Gaza and Egypt.
The UN High Commissioner said, “The situation that the residents of Israel, Gaza and the West Bank are going through is the most dangerous phase in the region’s 56-year history.”
It should be noted that on October 7, Hamas fighters entered Israel and carried out a surprise attack. Since that day, Israel’s air force began operations in Gaza. That campaign is still ongoing.
More than 1,500 Israelis and citizens of other countries have been killed in Israel by Hamas attacks. In addition, on the first day of the attack, Hamas took about 25 people from Israel as hostages in Gaza. On the other hand, the number of dead in Gaza has exceeded 10,000 in the operation of the Israeli Air Force. More than half of these victims are children and women.
A week after the start of this war, Russia presented a resolution calling for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip to the UN’s highest-powered body, the Security Council. China also supported that proposal. Currently, the United Nations, the Islamic world and countries from other parts of the world are calling for a cease-fire in Gaza. Source: CNN
