The fire at Baburhat Bazar in Narsingdi was brought under control but could not be fully extinguished. Two units of the fire service are still working on the spot to put out the fire.Khairul Alam, station officer of Madhavadhi Fire Service, told The Daily Star this information at around 12:30 noon on Monday.

A fire broke out at Baburhat Bazar of Madhavadhi Police Station at 11:10 PM on Sunday. The fire was brought under control around 2.30 am after two and a half hours of efforts of 17 units of the fire service.Station officer Khairul Alam said, ‘The fire has not been extinguished yet. The market was destroyed by burning clothes. Water does not penetrate through the ashes of the cloth. As a result, the smoke is still coming out. From where the smoke is coming out, water is being given there.’

At noon, going to Baburhat Bazar on the ground, it was seen that smoke was coming out from at least 10-12 cloth shops. Locals are helping the fire service personnel.Expressing frustration of shop owners. Many have lost everything and become disoriented.

Initially, it is estimated that around 75 shops were gutted in the fire and the damage was around 20 crore rupees.However, no casualty was reported in the incident.

Deputy Assistant Director of Narsingdi Fire Service, Abul Kalam Azad told Daily Star, ‘The fire started from the clothes of Baburhat. Later spread around. It is not yet known what caused the fire. But it is thought to be from short circuit.
