Earlier on Sunday, BNP called for morning-evening hartal across the country. Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced this from the party’s general meeting in Nayapaltan of the capital today in protest against the police attack on the movement to restore democracy. Later, media cell convener of the party, Zahir Uddin Swapan, confirmed the information of the strike with a press release.
Earlier, the Nayapaltan rally of BNP came to a standstill in the face of police obstruction at around 2.30 pm. After being chased, the activists scattered around. Later BNP-Police-Awami League three-way clashes took place in Nayapaltan and other nearby places. Many BNP leaders and activists as well as police and journalists were injured in these incidents.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said that 41 policemen injured in the clash are undergoing treatment at the hospital. DMP Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Farooq Hossain informed the media.
