The United States is very much in favor of free and fair elections in Bangladesh. The country is sending a delegation to Dhaka to conduct a Joint Pre-Election Assessment Mission (PEAM). Next Saturday (September 7), the delegation is coming to Dhaka on a one-week mission. The six-member delegation will stay till October 13.

According to the information of the US Embassy in Dhaka, a delegation of the US-funded International Republican Institute (IRI) and National Democratic Institute (NDI) will visit Bangladesh on October 7-13. They will come to conduct a Joint Pre-Election Assessment Mission (PEAM) as per the NDI Policy Declaration for International Observers.

During the visit, they are scheduled to meet representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Home Affairs, Election Commission, Citizen Observers, Civil Organizations and Women and Youth Organizations.

Apart from this, the members of the delegation will also talk to local and international media organizations of Bangladesh and representatives of foreign embassies and high commissions working in Bangladesh.
