Not getting a job as a night watchman in Natore’s Bagatipara, the owner of the land stopped the traffic with a bamboo fence at the entrance of the school. After being blocked for four hours with the intervention of the administration, the fence was removed from the only way to the school. The incident took place on Monday (October 2) at Jamnagar Bimukhi High School in the upazila.
According to local sources and school authorities, since the beginning of the school established in 1946, teachers and students used to travel over the land of deceased Nazim Uddin. Although it was used as a road for a long time, the owner of the land did not take anything in return. Recently the notification for recruitment of night watchman was given in the school. Then Real Ahmed, the son of the owner of the land, applied for the post.
But he didn’t get the job. Another candidate has been employed in that position. Due to this, Riel and his brother Jewel Ali closed the entrance of the school with a bamboo fence at 11 am on Sunday. Then teachers and students were blocked. At that time, the headmaster of the school reported the matter to the higher authorities and the police to solve the problem.
Bagatipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiul Azam and Upazila Secondary Education Officer Abdur Razzak came to the school in the afternoon after receiving the news. They talk about Jewel Ali at school. At this time it was decided to register the land by paying the price. Under these conditions, the owner of the land removed the fence.
Jewel Ali, the owner of the land of the land, said, ‘The school has been using that land for commuting for about 40 years. In October last year, when the school announced the job, it was decided to give my brother Riel Ahmed a job as a security guard in exchange of land with the school authorities. But the school authorities appointed another person through nepotism. After that, it is supposed to pay 3 lakh taka for the price of the land. But the school authorities did not give that. So he fenced the boundary of the land with bamboo. Later, he removed the fence as part of the settlement.’
Upazila secondary education officer Abdur Razzak said that the land at the entrance of the school is privately owned. After receiving the news of the fence, a meeting was held between the two sides in the school office around two o’clock. The school authorities have been asked to legally acquire the land there.
Shafiul Azam Khan, OC of Bagatipara Model Police Station said, after receiving the information, the spot was visited and the bamboo fence was removed.
