Lawyers’ demands for Mirza Fakhrul’s release in court.Today, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was brought before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Dhaka from his incarceration.He was taken before the court on October 28 for a bail hearing in nine different cases that were being heard at the Ramna and Paltan police stations in the capital city.
At around 12:15 hour, Fakhrul was transported from the Keraniganj Central Jail to the courtroom.Within the confines of the CMM court prison, he has been held.
Pro-BNP attorneys staged a demonstration inside the courthouse at this time.During that time, they requested that Fakhrul and other leaders and activists be released, and they also urged that the election be canceled.
At twelve o’clock, Fakhrul will be seen detained in nine different instances.The application for bail that was submitted on his behalf will then be considered.
On the 31st of December, 2019, his attorney, Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah, submitted an application for bail in these instances before the same court on behalf of Fakhrul.After that, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka, approved the plea and scheduled the hearing for today, to take place in the presence of Fakhrul.
According to the Detective Police (DB), Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was taken into custody on October 29 at around 9:30 in the morning from his residence in Gulshan.In the complaint that was filed at the Ramna police station on the same day, he was refused bail and taken to prison at around eight o’clock in the evening concerning the assault that was carried out on the house of the Chief Justice.His motion for bail in this matter is now being considered by the High Court.
